Carry Me Through The Storm – Story behind the song

STORY BEHIND THE SONG:

I wrote the song “Carry Me Through The Storm” in 1998  when I was at my lowest point after losing my mother.  When I went down for prayer one night at church I told God, “You said you wouldn’t give me more than I could bear so you must know that I can do this, so Lord you’ll have to carry me through it.”

A few days later I started writing and pouring my heart out to God.  I literally couldn’t see how I would get through the day.  I sang this song, which was my prayer to the Lord, through my hard times.  I realize that everyone goes through different storms in their life and God can and will carry you through.

My prayer is that this song might help someone else.  God has been faithful and he gave us all peace when we needed it.  I have cried many tears making the recording of this song, but it gives our church and our family great joy to have dedicated it to my mama.  I pray that this song will touch someone’s heart and encourage them.

Love to you all,

Sis. Cheryl Neptune

The CD is called “Carry Me Through the Storm” – it is the 2nd CD that we have recorded.  I’m sure Chad will be putting it on this web-site soon.

  1. Sis. Cheryl,
I want you to know that you do not know what it has done for me to see your post on facebook about this song. I have been going through some things lately and the Lord has been trying to help me, but I have apparently fighting him. This weekend at church we had a visitor who referenced your song, but I did not think much about it because I had not heard it. I clicked on here when I saw that you posted it and just cried because of the story behind it. This is where I am at! I am so appreciative that you posted this and please know that it has helped someone today!

  3. Sis Cheryl,
This CD was given to me in 2001 right after I lost my only child. I did not think that I would make it, the grief, pain and the loss was just too much. After listening to the CD over and over and over, I could feel the comfort and closeness of the Lord along with all of the prayers of my church family in Tomball, the Lord did carry me, strengthened me and held me up. I just want you to know that the words to your song helped me to hold on to the promises of the Lord that He would not leave me nor let go of me, even when I didnot have the strength or courage to hold on for myself. The Lord is so good and even though I still dont understand….I am gaining peace. Thank you so much for the encouragement through your songs and shared experiences. Bless you~!

    • Sis. Martha,
I can’t even imagine losing a child! I am so very sorry for your loss. The Lord has carried both of us through! Thank you so very much for writing this to me. I touches me when I know that someone has been helped and blessed. This is the only reason that I sing…to encourage and lift up God’s people. That’s why he gives us anything I believe…so we can encourage one another. I will surely pray for you. God is very faithful and He is always there. Thanks again for your time to tell me how you were blessed. Sis. Cheryl Neptune

  6. Sis Cheryl,
I’m so thankful for this song! It has trully been a blessing in my life since the first time I heard it. The Lord used THIS song to ‘carry me through the storm’ when my dad past away in 1999. I had only been in the wonderful body of Christ about 3 years and was just learning how to really trust God & gaining a closer relationship with Him, and that ALL things really do work for the good. Roms 8:28. It wasn’t til afterwards I found out the story behind the song. Wow, no wonder it spoke right to my heart & seemed like you knew exactly what I was needing to tell the Lord but just couldn’t. I used to light candles turn off all the lights and sit on the couch and play this song over & over… it felt like the Lord just came right in & wrapped me in His arms saying child it’ll be alright, I’m here. Hallelujah! I love & appreciate all your music & songs, but this one will always hold a special place in my heart. God bless you & thank you for allowing the Lord to use you for His glory, for His children to gain a closer relationship with Him through using you as a vessel 🙂
I recently had a friend who lost her mother, and I want to get this to her, I know it’ll help her tremendously. God is the GREAT I AM and an on-time GOD yes He is!

  7. My husband and I and our church has been richly blessed by your song. Thanks so much for letting God use you and being obedient to Him. I am also a singer and songwriter and am in the process of producing my first Gospel album. I pray that the songs that God has given me is as much of a blessing to others as your song has been a blessing to us. To God be the glory!
